Bangles! On Deepti, the most matching-conscious lady I know. Yea, she was wearing a top to compliment the exact colours. ;-)

My very first shot from the D40. :-) Straight out of the camera. Everything in Auto. I'm particularly impressed by how easy it is to get a narrow depth of field.

Equipment Upgrade!

Finally got my Nikon D40 in my hands! :) Many many thanks to my colleague Ravindra Dubey who took all the trouble to get it for me from the US. Especially considering the fact that we had never even talked to each other before this. It's not every day that you come across such nice people. :)

As you can guess, I'm still getting used to the body and all the controls of the D40 since an SLR is such a big step-up; even from a moderately advanced P&S (Canon PowerShot A95) that I owned previously. One thing is for sure, I absolutely love it!

The D40 kit ofcourse comes with the Nikkor 18-55mm lens, which has great reviews all over the web. Lets see what I can get out of the combo. While I was at it, I also got the Lexar 2GB Platinum SD Card, Hoya Introductory Filter Kit, Lumiquest Softscreen Diffuser, Giottos Cleaning Kit and Lowepro TLZ10 Holster Bag. Yes, I am now willing to sell my shirt for a meal. ;)

I bought everything online from B&H Photo Video. It was a great experience and you can read my testimonial here. Highly recommend them for all photography related purchases.

Canon Sensor Problem

Sorry for not posting in a while. I was busy with a few other things and my Canon PowerShot A95 started showing a weird problem. It's pretty easy to explain - Once the camera goes into this mode, all the pictures look like they have transparent violet paint splashed on them! The camera seems to revert to its normal helpful self after a random amount of time (usually less than 10 minuntes), but as you can guess, it became a very painful excercise.

For a long time, I couldn't for the life of me figure out the reason for the problem, until I stumbled upon this by pure chance (you can see that the question was posted on a Nikon D40 page!). So now we know that faulty CCD wiring is the problem and they say they'll repair it for free even if it's out of warranty. I trust they'll do it in the US for sure, but I'm not so convinced they'll do it here in India. If anybody has any previous experience with authorised Canon service centres either in Hyderabad or Bangalore, do let me know. Thanks.

Update: Thought I'd include a pic to showcase how bad the problem really is:

(Yea, that was supposed to be my b'day cake. Sighhh...)
